I've been building up a software compilation, for Microsoft Windows XP (not for Vista) that would provide a cheap as free, powerful, finely performing set of tools for everyone from the typical computer illiterate man to the most power-using child.

Ideally, ReactOS will be the finishing touch on this project, allowing an entirely free and open source operating system that a Windows user can operate. But that won't happen for a while.

What I'm interested in is peer review. Now, writing the NSIS code for an as-efficient-as-possible install CD (and the target compilation size is 700 MB) is easy enough, but a pain to update every month as I find new software, update old software, and so on. Especially since I don't have a server to share it with.

So my peer review comes in form of me putting hyperlinks with a mouseover description, and then You The People think about any free/open source software you have on your computer which can outdo mine, or fill a void my software doesn't have.

It's easy. Just give me the name of the software in a journal comment, or even send me a link to your favorite list of open source software.

But here's my list of what's on my model CD:
Image Manipulation:

Media players:

Maintenance:

Audio-Video Editing:

Internet Access:

Entertainment:

Windows Modifications:

Security:

Programming:

Office Tools

Utilities:

Unsorted:

Free download manager can use torrents, so I may remove Azureus. I don't know if I like A43--I haven't bothered to make the script to install it yet. I haven't used Inkscape, Scribus, Maxima, OpenVPN, MySQL, PHP, Wax, I've never gotten REC to work quite right.

Azureus is not quite compatible with the current version of SharpE, but a new SharpE is coming out soon enough. A43 may or may not be compatible once installed, it depends on how SharpE is coded.

I welcome any and all advice on this project of mine, and if you ask I'll update you on new software I find. If you decide to bookmark this specific journal, I'll try and keep it up to date with my compilation software list. I'll even sort it into labeled categories (its only roughly sorted right now). Why would I update this entry? Because some of those websites are damn hard to find, man, so this is my OWN bookmark list.

Does anyone know if the makers of any of those softwares that aren't GNU-enabled have some particular oath against being distributed on a CD?

Last but not least, this project needs a name... any ideas?

That's about it for now.

Ha, I'm doing fine. It seems to be a week of checking my Steam account and noticing my deviantArt page. I was only checking my comments section because Dr. Worm was browsing and I followed him here =P
:iconmagggot:
Haha I see. Do you not update often, then?
